I am running XP Home SP1.
My 'puter was working like a champ until Monday.
Suddenly, logging on has become soooooo slow. Starting programs, especially
IExplorer are painfully slow. I can send email in Outlook Express, but do
not receive.
I restored to the previous Thursday, and this made no difference.
The verified that the email settings are the same as my laptop which is
working fine.
Both my desktop and laptop use the wireless router. No startup problems or
access problems with the laptop.
I tried running McAfee virus scan on the desktop. It hangs up around 12000
files.
I tried downloading SP 2. The download stops.
When I shut down the slloooooow IExplorer, I get the following:
CiceroUIWndFrame: iexplore.exe - Application Error (this is in the bar at
the top of the box)
The instruction at "0x029627cd" referenced memory at "0x029627cd". The
memory could not be "read".
Click on OK to end the program.
(this appears in the box, next to the X in the red circle)
Because the use of Restore didn't correct the problem, my guess is that I've
got either a virus or a corrupt file.
Problem is I'm old and Polish. That, put together with being computer
stupid, makes this a dangerous situation. :)
I have no clue where to go from here.
Any help is greatly appreciated.
Thanks.

I have now found that my desktop cpu usage is 100%.
McShield.exe seems to be the culprit.
I'm currently running virus scan from the McAfee website.
This will be a long process.
I'm pretty sure that I'll get the problem resolved.
I'll re-post if not.
Thanks.

Jack
