Hi,
I want to start an xp pro machine on my home network and connect to it by
Treminal services and mapped drive.
I dont have room for a second monitor and keyboard etc so can I fool xp into
thinking that they are connected so that it starts up?

This is not an XP issue; it's an issue for your motherboard.
Some motherboards will happily start without a keyboard;
others will not. Most will start without a monitor. Buy a
cheap keyboard & mouse in order to get the machine going!

Buy a KVM [Keyboard, Video, Mouse] switch. Connect one keyboard, monitor,
and mouse to the switch, then connect multiple computers to the switch. Now
you can switch among multiple computers using one Keyboard, Video, Mouse.

Go into your BIOS, look for a setting called "Halt On" or similar, will be
in Standard BIOS Settings
Options for the setting are normaly

Setting : Meaning
---------------------------------------------------------------
All, But Keyboard : PC will halt if no keyboard detected
All, But Diskette : PC will halt if no floppy drive detected
All, But Disk/Key : PC will halt if no floppy or keyboard detected
All Errors : PC will halt if floppy drive, keybaord & additional devices
detected (check the motherboard manual)
No Errors : You get the idea

Set it to No Errors, PC will now boot without the need for a keyboard.
PC will boot without any probs with no monitor

Thanks for the info.

I couldn't find a "Halt on" type setting in the bios but it seems I can boot
up with a mouse and keyboard only.

I know a kvm switch would be ideal but it's cost just now so I was looking
for the cheapest option.
