Everytime I start my computer, a particular file folder is opened. How do i
prevent this from happening?

Is it the system32 folder, or another one?

No, it is not the system32 folder. It is a folder named Dell, which is in the Program Files folder. It's full address is c:/Program Files/Dell This is a recent experience. I have been running XP without this problem for about seven months.

You probably have an invalid entry in the registry run key,
what is causing this ? sorry all my crystal balls are
of line currently.
Share your secret and tell which folder you see, someone will
give you a fix.

Do you see any reference to it in the Startup menu?

Does Msconfig give you a reference to it?

If you close the folder, and reboot, does it stay gone?

Sorry. Look at my subsequent posting. It tells which folder.

It does not appear in the Startup menu. I have not tried Msconfig. I can get rid of it by simply clsoing it. It is then gone until the next time I start my computer.

It does appear under Msconfig under the Start Up tab and the Start Up item
is listed as PCMService.

Disable the startup item. It should go away. After you've confirmed
this, make the chages permanent.

Let us know if it works.

It did not work. The same file was opened, plus I a dialogue box popped up instructing me to return the start up to normal.

Msconfig always does that warning thing when you disable stuff, but
since it didn't fix the problem, it's clearly not gonna help with the
solution.

Can we get a list of startup processes?
