Hi,
I had XP SP1 working perfect till I got Blaster Worm mid
August; I didn't know it was a virus getting me these
reboot msg so I decided to reinstall XP ... bad choice!
Afterwards I patched XP and get rid of Blaster worm but...
now it takes 5 mn to boot up XP; it is running so long
during the screen with the green cursor running; after
that it runs well.
it seems to come from my CD drives because when I
deactivate them (both CD et CDRW) my start-up runs perfect
(30sec max); I tried to desactivate only the CDRW ==> 2mn
less; I tried also to desinstall et reinstall the drive ,
to start up in every kind of possible configuration
(F8+...);
all seems OK everywhere! (UDMA access, no warning or
flag,..)
I seems waiting for something when pooling the drives at
start up and not getting it
If someone has any idea to get me out of that mess....
Thanks!

Very simple. Reformat and reinstall. There could be any
number of problems with your system, but without access to
it nobody will ever know what the issue is. Copy anything
important to portable/removable storage and completely
reformat HD then reinstall. PS. Patching XP does not get
rid of the worm! All the patch does is keep you from
getting it. Go to Symantec.com and download fixblast.exe
to clean your system (I'm not sure if this works as I
never did anything unwise enough to allow my system to get
infected, but I have good info that it does).
