I am running windows xp professional. When I start the computer it goes
directly to start up mode, but when I choose any of the options it restarts
the computer again. Does anyone have any suggestions that could help me

Right Click the My Computer icon on desktop. Select Properties.
Next, select Advanced. Look for a block that says Startup and recovery. Press the settings button.

In System failure section, turn off (un-check) Automatically restart.

Write an event to system log should be Checked (selected).
Then logoff and restart the system (just so it saves your settings.)

Now then, what "options" are you trying that cause (or start) a restart.

I cant get to the desktop. No matter what action I choose from safemode
screen, the computer restarts and goes back to safemode, choose another
action and it restarts again back to safe mode screen.

And you chose "Last Known Good Configuration" from that screen and still
were unable to log in? If so, then you can try a Repair Install.
Whether the Repair Install works depends on what happened to cause the
error. If the computer is virus/malware-infested and/or there are
hardware problems, the Repair Install will not work. Since we don't
know anything about your computer except that you have XP Pro, that's
the most specific answer you can get.
