Start-up Problem

In recent days, I've found that my internet service is being 'fired up' when
the computer is initially switched on. I can't think what I've done to
bring this about, and I can't think how I can stop this happening (although I
feel I should). Can anyone refresh my memory on how to stop AOL opening
automatically on start-up. Many thanks.

Broadband or Dial-up ? - First approach would be to check options
of the AOL software itself. Broadband is designed to be a 24-7 type
of connection that is always on and not require manual start up. In
some cases a "Automatic Update" ( AV, ...) at boot up may cause a
automatic connection. Too many variables to give a focused answer.

Thanks for response. It is Broadband, and it simply fires up when I
start the computer. I can't think what I've done in the last 24hrs to
bring this about, as I've survived years without this problem. It's not
something that's affecting the health of the computer - but it really is
annoying. There must tbe something that can control what does, and what
does not, activate on start-up. Thanks again.

Click Start->Settings->Network Connections; Right click your Internet
connection Icon then
1) ->Properties select/check Show icon in notification area. When the
network icon is in taskbar next to your speaker/clock display you can right
click it to disable it.
2) -> Create shortcut; this will place icon on desktop (you can optionally
drag it into Quick launch toolbar). When your connection is disabled/enabled,
you can enable/disable it by right click on this network shortcut icon.
If you are unfamiliar with Right Click you'll see that it enables various
actions depending on the type of object that you apply it to.
