Start-up issue

Last night, my computer completed an automatic update. Before I went to
sleep, I went to put the computer to hibnernate, but it suggested shutting
down in order to complete updates. I did that, and it appeared to complete
installing the updates, and shutdown.

When I woke up, computer won't boot up. It has the initial Windows XP
screen, and appears like it's trying to boot, but never leaves that screen.
I attempted the system restore to a few dates, didn't work. Also followed
recommendation to adjust a few things in Msconfig, didn't work. Support
finally recommended to go into device manager to check on a driver...
couldn't get into the device manager (window for the manager opened, but no
info...all blank).

Based on what I've tried so far, any thoughts from anyone on what the
correlation there might be between the computer not booting, and also not
being able to do anything with device manager?

Thanks,
Jeff

Ok, scratch that issue about the device manager. I just tried to re-load it
again, and this time it works. So, I'm still just stuck with a Windows XP
start-up issue, despite following the recommendations. Any advice would be
helpful. Thanks!

Jeff

Go to Safe Mode and try to uninstall the updates from there.
