My OS is XP Pro. I want to use a start-up disk, but it won´t recognize it
and just says wrong disk or something like that. It is configured to
recognize the Floppy first, CD Rom next and then the hard drive.

I want to get into DOS to edit boot.ini

Please help.

Can you give us the exact error message? That would be most helpful. BTW if
your system is formatted as NTFS - which is generally the case with XP -
then you will not be able to use DOS to edit any files on the system.

You can edit boot.ini from within XP.

You can make a very basic startup floppy by My Computer - format the
Floppy, check MSDOS startup floppy. Or use a Win98 one.

But to edit Boot.ini you would normally do it from Windows - Control
Panel - System - Advanced and in Startup and error, click Settings,
click Edit and it loads into Notepad.

Note that if your hard drive is NTFS you will not be able to 'see' it
from DOS> In that case there is a free EDITBINI tool in the free tools
at www.bootitng.com which will do the edit if run from a Win98 or
similar startup floppy
