Start up account restriction errors

I am new to xp, been using Win98 for years. I now have XP Home edition with
SP2.
Whenever my PC starts up it says "Unable to log you on because of an account
restriction". If I press okay it then has a login box which by default
enters the username "Administrator". If I change this to "Michelle" (no
passwords) it then lets me in.

Originally what was happening was this was all flicking for a second, then
would shoot quickly to 'loading xp' screen where it sat indefinately
appeared to be hanging yet sometimes if I left it some 20 min later it would
then automatically log in. I went into User Accounts and changed the way a
user logs on and it brings up the error now and remains there as described
in my first paragraph. This is a new computer, few days old.

"Michelle" is listed as the Administrator when I go into the settings. The
Guest User is turned OFF. This is just a home PC so no drama about sharing.

I did a google search on this error I'm getting and it says it is to do with
remote computer log in or something which made no sense to my problem and
there was no fix. I have spent a good part o fyesterday researching and
trying to find someone with a similar problem but nothing seems to be out
there. I have Nortons Anti-Virus, Ghost, ZoneAlarm, Office running in the
background not sure if this is relevant.

Anyone heard of this before and have any suggestions?

Logon using the Administrator account. You must start the computer in safe
mode to access this account in XP Home. The password for this account is
usually blank (nothing).

You may want to create a new user profile.

Thanks I did this and deleted my old profile to no avail. I ended up ringing
Dell (this is a new PC just out of Box) and they tried a fewt higns but were
mystified by this. I ended up having to restore my PC to factory and now
it's all working fine.

Didn't realize it was just out of the Box, glad your problem is solved.
