When I start a browser or mail program while offline the "Dial-Up
Connection" box appears and I click "Connect". This is fine and is the way I
want it.

The box has a check box next to "Connect Automatically". What happens if
this box is checked?

I have seen what looks like the reverse of this option at start/control
panel/network connections/advanced/dial-up preferences/"Always ask before
autodialing". Does this have the effect of unchecking the "Connect
Automatically" box or is there another or better way? I don't want to
experiment and not be able to get back to my preferred status.

This setting is also a radio button set at IE,. tools, options, Connection tab (e.g. 'never dial' etc)

..

I was not referring to "never dial". What I am referring to is to "always"
dial but to either do it without interruption or do it with a screen that
must be clicked to continue or cancel.

"Never dial" will not give a dial screen at all. I believe that is what the
radio button does.
