In my start menu there is an item help and support. If I click that, it
should give me the usual help interface. Instead it does not do anything.
Before a couple of days it was giving me my cup of tea but now it is not my
cup of tea!!! Other users do get the help interface on the same machine only
I cannot get it. I have administrative rights. The same problem is with
Window Media Player mini-mode, it shows the buttons for play, forward etc to
other when they activate window media tool bar in taskbar and then minimise
the media player. In my case, the taskbar --> toolbar --> window media
player item is there, when I click it, the tick mark does not appear at all
against it. When i minimize the media player, it simply shows me the
minimized item and not the mini-mode. Please help me reclaiming these
facilities.

Repairs Windows XP's Help and Support
http://www.dougknox.com/xp/scripts_desc/fixwinxphelp.htm

If the above repair does not work:

Go to Start > Run and type in: helpctr -regserver

To reinstall Help and Support:
Go to C:\Windows\inf\pchealth.inf.
Right-click and choose install. Have your XP CD available.

Note: The folder is hidden by default. Go to Start > Run
and type in:
control folders. View: Show hidden files and folders and
uncheck
"Hide extensions for known file types".
