Start menu size

This is a silly question, but I just tried to customize the start menu for
the first time. I added the Printers link and changed no other settings. But
as soon as I did that, the menu got a lot smaller. It's not that the icons
changed size, just that the menu doesn't take up nearly as much screen space.
I've tried to restore the defaults, but I can't get it back the way it was.
Any suggestions?

You can make it larger or smaller by changing the number of Programs are
kept in the history on the left side.
