The shortcuts are for mozilla firebird browser and thunderbird mail
application. They don't appear to be normal shortcuts because when you
right click on them a different menu comes up that a normal shortcut
would display, (eg, there is no properties entry, and a entry that takes
you to the app options config). This must be some sort of registry
entry or something. I can't find it in any of the normal spots, in
documents and settings.

Thanks for all the ideas. I'm still searching.

They point to the original thing. If you drag a shortcut to the Start Panel anything you do to it on the Start Panel is actually done to the original item.

Is this the inbuilt email client entry? What do you wnat to change?

I'm looking to add an option to the startup command. But these entries
are strange. The email client is Mozilla Thunderbird and the browser is
Firebird both from www.mozilla.org. Would the fact that these programs
are my default mail and browser programs do anything special? If you
install these you will see what I mean about these entries not being
normal shortcuts.

I will never install Netscape. My web site is coded to prevent netscape users from using it..

Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Clients\StartMenuInternet\IEXPLORE.EXE\shell\Custom\command]
@="notepad"

add notepad with the name custom to Internet Explorer. Your piece of shit program will be similar. Mail is nearby.

If you are using XP's Start Menu, you still haven't said.

It's either the pinned items list or your applications have take IE and OE's
places with the Set Program Access and Defaults feature.

I use the Classic Start Menu and have removed the Program Access and
Defaults icon.

Trying to add startup options to these icons probably won't work. You need
to do that from...

C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Start Menu\Programs\Startup
or
C:\Documents and Settings\Your Name Here\Start Menu\Programs\Startup
or in the registry.

[[The list of programs on the Start menu is divided into two parts: the
programs displayed above the separator line (also known as the pinned items
list) and the programs displayed below the separator line (also known as the
most frequently used programs list). The programs on the pinned items list
remain there and are always available for you to click to start them.]]

Hmm, thanks for the info. But "piece of ****" program? Ever check which
POS program has all the security breaches?? I'm not a MS basher nor am
I a MS fanatic. I use whatever software fits my needs and wants. Oh,
by the way, which POS program is loosing market share on a weekly basis,
or doesn't have tabbed browsing, or popup blocking, oh they did add that
didn't they? OK there I've said enough, I feel better. I won't reply
to any more of these derogatory replies.

Again thanks for your help but please keep the commentary.
