Start menu programs list re-sets

For some odd reason, the list of programs I frequently use (in the Start
menu) gets cleared periodically. I am not manually clearing it. The list
of programs to be displayed is set to 10 and it populates correctly. On
occasion, and I cannot establish a pattern, it clears seemingly on its own.
The pinned items remain. Is there a configuration setting I can change to
stop this or is something else going on? I googled for an answer but found
nothing relevant. Thanks.
 
Disregard. Found out my wife was clearing it. She is never on this
computer and I didn't think she was savvy enough to find the clear list
switch. At least that problem is fixed. Now to work on our communication
issues...

Sounds like something that the old TweakUI Paranoia feature used to do.

Wondering aloud: is this connected to clearing the Run history?
 
You just my own shameful resolution post. (But that was the first thing I
did - check the Tweak UI settings. I am using the XP version and the
'Paranoia' tab is gone but I searched the list anyway). Thanks for the
reply.

The marrynoia settings are less well documented.
