several problems seem to have stated at once.
1. most web page buttons don't work - ie; bring up google
page, enter search criteria, click on the search button -
nothing.
2. using classic start menu - there is a line
above "programs" but nothing else (no windows update
button etc)
3. click on programs and its "empty" - though all the
programs exist and ca be seen if I right button click and
select explore.
4. can no longer access Microsoft updates (get an error
accessing page)
5. when trying to send this to the MS news group I
get "error on page" - no such interface supported

Do you think you might have some type of virus, or maybe even spyware? Or
perhaps you made the wrong changes to some settings in your computer?

.
You need to restore to a good date, try the restore
feature.

That's exactly what I thought- but the latest versions of
spy hunter and norton said - no. I believe the registry
became corrupt - so I reinstalled xp (actually used the
repair option), then sp2 and it looks like I'm back.

thanks for replying
