start menu\ program files

How can I manually install a program so that it is in the
start\program files folder? When I install some programs
they ask me where to put them and that is where I point
them to go however, when I click on start then point to
program files I do not see the program. When I look in
explorer (right click start and select explore) I find
the folder and it is in the program file folder but not
from my start menu. Can anyone tell me how to place it
there?
