Start menu disappears

  • Thread starter Thread starter TC
  • Start date Start date
Hit:

Ctrl + Alt + Del

Either Task Manager starts and you can choose an option from the Shutdown
menu item OR you will be immediately presented with the option to log off
etc.

I'm not sure what is going on. You may have Auto-hide enabled - if so turn
it off so the Taskbar stays put and doesn't slide down.

You can get to the Taskbar and Start Menu Properties through the Control
Panel

OR

more easily, by right-clicking on the Taskbar and selecting Properties and
there you can uncheck Auto-hide.

Thanks again. I'll try that. I have a youngster who uses

Hi,

Control/Alt/Delete - When the Windows Task Manager dialog box appears, go
to Processes, find Explorer.exe highlight it and choose End Process.

Keep the task manager open then select the File menu and then New Task
(Run). When the Create New Task dialog box appears, type in Explorer and
press the OK button. Windows Explorer should restart complete with the
Taskbar and Start button.

If still nothing: Go back to the Task Manager/File/New Task and type in
msconfig. On the General Tab choose Expand File.

Or go to Start/Run and type in CMD:
expand x:\i386\explorer.ex_ c:\windows\explorer.exe

Restore Desktop Icons and Taskbar (Line 195)

Note: Do not reboot or logoff. Once the edit is merged, right click the
Notification Area/Task Manager/Processes. Highlight Explorer.exe, End
Process.

Leave the Task Manager open. Once the process has ended, choose File/New
Task and type in: Explorer.exe.
