Start menu closing quickly

This just started happening today. When I open the Start menu, it closes
again after a few seconds. It will stay open if I keep the cursor moving
on it continuously, but closes almost as soon as I stop. I scanned the
system with 2 virus scanners and 3 adware/spyware scanners (all
signature files are up to date), but found nothing. I haven't installed
anything on the system recently. Anyone have any ideas on what could be
causing this?

Also, all of the desktop folders I have created, which normally display
the programs with an "Icon" view, keep changing to a "Detailed" view. I
don't have to reboot for this to happen. They just seem to change to
detailed view at random intervals. Any help would be appreciated.
 
Anyone? I've searched for a solution for this, but all I've come across are
other people with the same problem, and no answers. There has to be someone
who has found a solution to this problem!
