Running Win XP Pro w/o issue for quite a while. In the last few months,
started getting situation where the Programs list on the Start menu would
randomly become "empty" even though all programs were resident and working.
A re-boot or re-login usually restored this. Occasionally if I didn't reboot
and ignored the problem it would get worse to the point where the Start menu
button itself wouldn't open (thus requiring a Cntl-Alt-Del to get a dialogue
for rebooting). After reading online forums, concluded I needed to create a
new user profile, which I did, and the problem seemed to be resolved for a
few days. This morning I found that the Start button is again non-responsive
(under the new user profile). So I ask for your suggestions and thank you in
advance. What else can I try (short of a new XP install)? Why is this
happening? Might I have copied over something evil when I created the new
user profile?
Thanks!
