Windows XP sometimes adds duplicate toolbars for running programs to the
task bar at the bottom of the screen and they are very hard to remove.
Anyone knows why and how to remove them if it happens? Thanks.

The easy way is to rt click on the tool bar then clock on tool bar and
uncheck the ones you don't want.

For a named toolbar, I can certainly check it off. But when you launch a
program such as notepad, it deposits a program icon to the taskbar,
sometimes, this running pgms toolbar/taskbar show up twice for some reason
(one notepad running, but two notepad icons on the bar). I don't know why
and if there is an easy to go back to the prior state.

THe easist way to go back to a previous state is to use system restore and
restore it to a date prior to when this started happening like if it started
last week go back to last week + 1 day also check the way your mouse
functions to make sure that someone hasn't changed to "open on single click "
insted of double click.

Thanks for your help. System restore is a overkill for this and I can't
afford to lose other changes. I am pretty sure this is a bug in XP. A reboot
often fixes it. There must be a lot of people experiencing this. Not only it
occurs on my HP notebook, but on my HP desktop as well.
