How can I get a third column in all programs. I have now instlled more
programs that can be displayed in two columns?

Do some house cleaning!

Right click on the start button. Go to "open all users". Then, double click
on "Programs". Create some additional "base" folders. I have one I call
Applications and another I call "Utilities". You can create whatever you
want.

After you create the new folders, move anything to these folders that you
feel belongs within them.

I have over 100 programs and utilities on my computer, yet show only 7
"main" folders when I go to Start | All Programs.

Very Strongly agree with Richard's recommendation. Program Group sprawl
is one of Windows biggest usability issues. On my own machine and many
I maintain there are only 5-7 Main Program groups, with many sub categories
below them. Problem is much worse with some of the "Run On" folder names
that some applications use. So along with collapsing the groups a few
renames
along the way helps.

I am surprised no one mentioned that you can also just change the 3 column
format to "scroll programs" so that they all appear in one column.
Right-click the task bar, under start menu, customize, advanced, tick the
'scroll programs"
