Star Trek Elite Force II causes system crash

I have installed Star Trek Elite Force II on my XP
system, and it crashes my entire system during gameplay.
I have an NVIDIA Geforce FX 5600 video card and a
Creative Audigy sound card, and 640 MB of RAM, on a
P4/1.7 machine, so I'm not sure why this is happening.
Any ideas?
 
I have a similar setup and haven't had any problems. Try shutting off any
programs running in the background that you don't need. Also, make certain
that your drivers are updated to the latest Windows certified drivers. If
you still have probelms, post back with the exact error message (if any) and
any more detailed information you can think of.
 
"Elite Force II has encountered a problem and needs to close. We apologize
for the inconvenience".

I must have seen that error 25 times in the first 2 days I had the game.

I used to get that exact error too. I got mine to go away when I stopped
shooting the good guys.
