Hi guys,

I've installed XP on my Laptop and I got some strange "out of memory
problems",
when having started several programs.

However: I already changed my RAM (because I tought it might be defect) and
now
I updated it to 1250MB. Forthermore, there are 20Gb free on my harddisk and
I
also tried changing the virtual memory settings.

Nothink changed the situation. :-(

When looking at the task-manager, there seems to be plenty of virtual and
physical
ram left, when getting out-of-error messages. For example the task manager
contains
738056 MB of available physical memory...
(see http://www.ananasnetz.de/test/ramproblem.jpg)

Can anyone help me?

Best greetings,

Sven

If you are running multiple applications, especially intensive ones you will
get such a message. Click start > Run > type in: "msconfig" without quotes >
startup (tab), uncheck any unnecessary programs that might be starting up
with your system.

What does a scan with a current antivirus program (meaning a version not
earlier than 2003 using updated virus definitions) show? Have you
scanned for other types of malware also?

Thanks a lot. I deactivated 2 Programs, that I don't necessarily need.
However: Those programs used 1.2 and 4MB, so it won't probably change a lot.
However: The task manager says that there is still plenty of ram left, when
the problem occurs (see the image link in my last mail). So for me it looks
like windows does not use the ram altough it is available...

Thanks, but this talks about out-of-memory problems when writing to disk
because of old/wrong drivers..Well, writing to disk is probably the only use
case, where I did not get an out-of-memory error... ;-)

HI i think u will find update KB834707 is the problem, SP2 rc2 seems to be 1
of the effected versions, I dont know of a reliable fix but uninstalling the
update and sp2 in dos or recovery boot is "said "too work. I found was better
to reformat as all my data was on other partitions (not lucky) good luck
