I have never used standby in previous PCs. Is this technology in my new XP
PC reliable and trouble-free?
Thanks
Doug

This standby, as far as I can tell, is for energy-saving purposes. Meaning,
if you leave your computer ON for a very long time but you are actually not
using the computer, it can go on Standby mode (shuts down Monitor) to
conserve energy on the PC and will lock your PC. You can make your computer
active again by moving the mouse, and if the PC was locked, you have to
unlock it by re-logging to your Windows (you have to type in your Windows
password, if you set one). Personally,I don't think this is needed by home
users as new PC uisers might think their computers are broken when the
monitor suddenly shuts down. XD

I use standby everyday with no problems. I do not use
hibernation tho' as I have had problems with it. I have done
away with hibernation entirely. Others may have different
experiences with standby. My suggestion...READ the manual that
came with the computer. Also the HELP which is available with
most computers.

No it isn't trouble free. Certain incompatible drivers can cause it not
to go into standby or blue screen with an error. If it works on your
system - then that's good.
