I see that Win XP Pro has "Shutdown" as a command line
option, but it only supports shutdown or restart. I want
to enter hibernate from command line, but cannot find how
to do this. Please help.

Andrej Budja's shutdown utility supports hibernation & standby parameters.

See: http://www.budja.com/shutdown/

Hi!
Download Shutdown.exe 1.0
Shutdown.exe is a simple command line utility that can:-
Log Off the current user
Shutdown (Turn Off) the computer
Restart the computer
Hibernate the computer (note that hibernation has to be enabled!)
Put the computer into Stand By (Sleep)
You also have the option to force the action and thus end all running
programs without saving data.

Shutdown.exe has been designed for Microsoft Windows XP. It might also
work on other operating systems (like Windows 2000), but you should not
rely on it.
Before apply please go through the instructions.
