Hi, No matter how I try I cannot get the desktop to go into standby mode or
have the hard drive go to sleep after a half hour of inactivity. I've tried
tweaking all of the power settings to no avail. Is there a way to clear the
system so I can shut down automatically at a chosen time?
Thanks
Catt

Depending on what you want to do, Microsoft has a built-in program for
shutting down windows after a specific amount of time. To use this, click
start, run and type in the following:

shutdown -s -t [secs]

[secs] is replaced by the amount of seconds before shutdown.

For minutes, open the calculator and calculate 60 times the amount of minutes.

For hours, open the calculator and calculate 3600 times the amount of hours.

Note: There are 60 seconds in a minute, and 3600 seconds in an hour (60
seconds times 60 minutes)

If that was the case I could think of a quick fix for it off the top of my
head .. btw that link doesn't work (at least for me)

link worked when I posted it( I opened and copied it from the web site),
and it works now, maybe something on your end?

Yes it does kick in and yes I have the Wireless Optical Desktop mouse on an
XP computer with SP2

Jonathan, that's good info but I want the computer to go into standby mode
not shutdown. I want to tap a key or move the mouse to get it to wake up.
Thanks
