standby mode;hibernation mode

I am running xp home edition on a desktop pc, when pc
enters standby mode either automatically or manually it
wakes itself up almost immediately. It does the same with
the hibernation mode.

Check your bios power settings for what is supposed to wake it up. Some bioses
will wake up if you move the mouse (bumping into your desk will do it) or when
they receive any lan traffic, which will also wake it up quite often.
