Standby Missing from Windows Shutdown dialog box

Some software I loaded (and since uninstalled)has
intentionally removed the standby capability of my laptop
(but not re-activated it). KB article 188134 on this
subject for Win 98 was not useful for me (I thought it
might offer some clues) as I'm unable to follow the
equivalent for XP - could not uninstall APCI driver and
there is no
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\VXD\V
POWERD entry in my registry.

I use(d) standby a lot and would like to re-activate it -
can anyone help please?

Thanks Bill

Discovered I can't do this because IBM don't supply a
CDROM for the OS any longer and my fabulous IT people who
disabled System Restore also deleted all the CAB files in
Windows/Options.

Any other ideas?

Try doing this:

315341 How to Perform an In-Place Upgrade (Reinstallation) of Windows XP
http://support.microsoft.com/?id=315341

Just remember to re-patch your system afterwards.

Do you have another IBM machine that has the CAB files already on it? Would
you be able to copy those back over?

Also, if you go into Device Manager (devmgmt.msc), what does it say the HAL
is under "Computer" (Standard PC, ACPI Uniproc...etc)?

It's ACPI Bill

Also, I've re-installed XPP and installed the latest PM
drivers from IBM - still not got standby back.
