Since installing Windows XP SP2, my computer will no
longer go into Stand By mode, but must be totally shut
down. Has anyone else experienced this problem?

I have the exact same problem and would like some help as well. I would like
to use the stand by mode because the humm of my fan can get really annoying.

Hi, Marcus.

I'm running WinXP SP2 and Standby works fine for me.

You can see your computer; we can't, so you'll have to tell us about it:
Make and model (or mobo/CPU/RAM, etc., if you built it yourself)? How many
HDs, and what interface (SCSI, SATA, IDE)? WinXP Pro or Home? SP2
installed? On a network? Stuff that makes a difference between our being
able to offer you intelligent advice versus just shooting blindly in the
dark, hoping we can guess what will help you.

HOW are you trying to enter Standby? Start | Turn off computer | Standby?
Then what happens next? Does your computer hang? Do you get any error
messages? Does it reboot? Does it hibernate instead of Standby?

I have similar problems. In fact I've never really seen a machine that will
consistantly go into standby mode. So let me ask, is there any way to know if
a machine has tried to go into standby mode and if so, what is preventing a
machine from entering standby mode.

Hi

I have a Quantex Pentium II 450 Mhz machine and I have installed XP on it.
Later I installed the SP2 on top of that. The problem I am facing is when I
do start/turn off, I donot see any stand by option. When I go into the power
management it does not show me a place to enable it also. Can any one help

Regards

Vivek
