Which is better to shut the system down or use the stand by option? on stand by will my system be protect by my firewall and anti-virus sortware while still connected to dsl?
Stand by is faster, in that the computer is able to work more rapidly
coming from a stand by, as opposed to taking the time to boot up if
you use shut down.
However, consider that there might be problems with the power supply
and/or lightning that could cause damage to the hardware.
For extended periods of time, (like overnight) I would suggest
shutdown.
