I sincerely appreciate you response and will keep it for
future reference. Carey Frisch solved my present
problem. Still I thank you for offering help.

Your problem might be that if ACPI is not enabled in the
BIOS settings of the PC then Power Management functions
will not be enabled under Windows. If you want to read
about ACPI & Power Management for Windows, click on Help
in the Start Menu and type in ACPI. Under Windows 2000
ACPI needed to be enabled PRIOR to installation of the
software. I'm not sure if this is still the case with
Windows XP. During the Install process Windows 2000
would install a different HAL (Hardware Abstraction
Layer) for the OS to allow it to control power
functions. This could not be changed after installation.
To see if Windows is installed with ACPI support you can
either Right click on "My Computer" to display "System
Properties" or go into the Control Panel and click on the
System icon. On the "System Properites" menu click on
the Hardware tab at the top. On the Hardware page click
on the Device Manager button. This will display all the
hardware devices in your PC. Click on the +plus sign
next to the Computer Icon. If it shows Advanced
Configuration & Power Interface (ACPI) PC then Windows
was installed with ACPI support. If this is not shown
then this is probably your problem.
