i ran a refresh disk that came with the pc.but thats not important, the stand
by button is greyed out how can i fix it

Hi tanner,

It is important. Reinstalling the system wiped out the drivers needed to
support that function. Ramesh has given you a link to a page I wrote on this
problem. As he has stated, you need to reinstall the system drivers, you are
using Windows defaults and these frequently do not support the standby
function.

thanks at least i have the probable cause .but are the drivers more important
then the bios settings?

Hi,

The drivers are how the OS talks to the hardware. Without them the OS would
not be able to interact with the system BIOS to make anything work.
