If it is on the network then it is woken up by some triggers on your
network. Can you give us more info please.

Why does the computer restart by itself after an hour or two on
stanby?

Do you really expect people to give you a useful answer when you don't
give any information?

Good God, man, learn to ask a coherent question, please.

Why does the computer restart by itself after an hour or two on stanby?

Does your system have installed Skype, Messenger, AVG or Bit Defender?

To eliminate questions and guessing, please provide additional
information about your system.

Click Start, Run and in the box enter:

msinfo32

Click OK, and when the System Summary info appears, click Edit, Select
All, Copy and then paste the information back here.

There will be some personal information (like System Name and User
Name), and whatever appears to be private information to you, just
delete it from the pasted information.

Perform some scans for malicious software, then fix any remaining
issues:

Download, install, update and do a full scan with these free malware
detection programs:

Malwarebytes (MBAM): http://malwarebytes.org/
SUPERAntiSpyware: (SAS): http://www.superantispyware.com/

They can be uninstalled later if desired.

by restart itself, do you mean reboot, or awake from standby?

it could be many things, a scheduled task started, activity on the mouse,
check your event log for details, and report back here.

Thanks here's the info

Yes there are many events in the Application, Security and System tabs...
would those events cause the PC to awakwe from standby/

Without viewing them myself it's impossible to tell. I would look at
application and see what ran at the time the system woke up, system should
list it was on standby and what time it woke.

That looks pretty good - how about my other questions/things to do?

Really?

I cleared all my Event Logs and entered Stand By and then emerged
about 3 minutes later with a mouse click.

There was nothing in the Event Log about entering Stand By. When I
came out, my Application log was still empty but I got what I expected
in the System log when it came out of Stand By:

Event Type: Information
Event Source: Service Control Manager
Event Category: None
Event ID: 7036
Date: 12/30/2009
Time: 10:11:22 PM
Description:
The Windows Image Acquisition (WIA) service entered the running state.

Is my system malfunctiojing since I do not see anything about listing
it was on standby or when it woke?

by restart itself, do you mean reboot, or awake from standby?

it could be many things, a scheduled task started, activity on the mouse,
check your event log for details, and report back here.

It is possible for a computer to come out of Stand By from a Scheduled
Task - if the Wake the computer to run this task box is checked (this
requires a little extra effort), but there is nothing in the event log
about the system waking up because of a ST starting... just the the
WIA service starting event already mentioned and the task runs fine.

Is this curious behavior or normal behavior?
