Hi,
On every system start up I'm shown following message;
" Windows cannot find 'SSVICHOSST.exe'. Make sure you typed the name
correctly, and then try again. To search for a file, click the Start button,
and then click Search."
I simply dont understand the reason & purpose of this error message. I even
dont recall asking windows to find for me this file.
Could someone thru light on this and suggest remedial action(s)? I'm using
Windows XP-Pro.
Regards.

Some anti-virus detects 'SSVICHOSST.exe' and could have been quarantined by
your anti-virus but its registry start up value remains the reason for the
message at start up. See this link:
http://www.sophos.com/security/analyses/w32sohanar.html
Take particular attention on the "Advance" tab where regitry entries were
mentioned.

Also update your anti-virus and scan your system. Online scans is also
recommended.

A Google Groups search showed no mention of that file, other than your
post. That suggests that some malware was removed, but the reference to
the file was not removed from the registry.

Click Start, Run, type REGEDIT, click OK. Press the Home key, press F3,
type the name of the file into the search pane. Click "Find Next", and
when located, delete the reference to the file. Press F3 to continue
the search.

You can click File, Export, and save the entry to the Desktop, attach
the file to a post in this thread; someone might note whether it's safe
to delete first. If you remove it and there's a problem, double-click
the .reg file you exported to the Desktop and it'll be added to the
registry again. You can create a restore point before editing the
registry too.

Thanks Elmo. I have exported the file. But how can I attach it in the Post?

You are very right Rey. Infact it was Avira Anti-Virus that detected
something like "Sohanat.AE", which I deleted later on from the quarantine.
Being novice I'm reluctant to with registry, anyway Elmo is also of the same
opinion. Let's hope this could work. Thanks indeed.

The export of the registry entry was merely a backup in case there was a
problem after the removal of the entry. But if you want to post the
entry, you could copy/paste just the pertinent line/s. I don't think
it's necessary though.
