My AT&T Yahoo mail server says i need to enable SSL or I'll stop receiving
mail. I can't find through the "Tool" "Security" tab how to do that??? I
keep getting messages from Yahoo everyday about this. Is this necessary?

Yes, it is necessary. AT&T/Yahoo will shut down their non-SSL servers
in the near future.
In Windows Mail go to Tools, Accounts, select that mail account,
Properties, Advanced. In that screen, enable the SSL option
(two places), then change the incoming (POP) port to 995, and
change the outgoing (SMTP) port to 465. Then go to the Servers tab
and make sure "My server requires authentication" is enabled.

See if this helps you find the necessary instructions:

If an email provider decides to require this, you have to go along if you
want to keep using that email provider.

I changed the settings manually that you instructed, plus had to change the
POP and SMTP servers from sbcglobal to att and I think that it's taken care
of now. Thanks.

by the way...I made the changes months ago...it just stopped working (not
right after making the changes)

the error message I am receiving is the same many people are suddenly
receiving:

An unknown error has occurred. Account: 'pop.att.yahoo.com', Server:
'pop.att.yahoo.com', Protocol: POP3, Port: 995, Secure(SSL): Yes, Error
Number: 0x80004005

Unknown errors in Windows Mail are often due to interference from
an antivirus program. What if any antivirus programs do you have?

"Unknown error" is almost always caused by a non-compatible
antivirus. Often it takes several months before problems show up.
As a test, uninstall your antivirus, reboot, then try Windows Mail again.

Email scanning should be turned off in any anti-virus. Also exclude EML
files from the scan. It provides no protection not provided by the regular
resident protection.
Besides that, McAfee and Norton are not compatible with Windows Mail and
Outlook Express and should be uninstalled. The latest version of Trend's
anti-virus seems to be causing problems too.

Classicnet seems to have been taken over by Cebridge:
http://support.cebridge.net/serveraddy.php

From the rather limited email setup information there,
I would doubt that they support SSL. Have you tried it with port 25
and no SSL? Don't worry about the server name since smtp.classicnet.net
is an alias for mail.classicnet.net.

Please note that the newsgroup to which you posted is dedicated to
support for the Windows Mail program. The Windows Live Mail experts
tend to hang out in the WLM newsgroup, where you are more likely to
get help for WLM-specific problems:
