When i acces internet i hear a strange sound like an engine from the CPU.
What is that sound and How do i stop it? Help me
please.................................

I suspect that the OP means a sound comes from the computer and reminds him of an engine (A lot of
users do not know hardware terms and call the tower a "cpu".) I teach introduction to computer to
seniors and they have some very strange idea of hardware terms based on what they thought they heard
it called.

To answer the OP. Go to the control panel - Sounds and Audio Devices - then Sounds and test each
option there. I think you will find that a computer sound has been assigned to a task such as
"complete navigation". When you find the one that make the sound you hear, change the sound for
that task to "none".

The CPU is a chip inside the computer's case. It is entirely electornic, has
no moving parts, and is incapable of making any sound at all.

I assume you mean that you hear a sound coming from the computer's case. Are
you sure that's where it's coming from? Sure it's not your speakers?

Please try to describe the sound more accurately? How loud is it? How long
does it last? Doe sit happen when you open Interenet Explorer? Is it on all
web sites? Have you tried a different browser?

How about doing other things on the internet, like reading and sending
E-mail? Do you get the sound there?

Being a "senior" myself (and so are most of my friends) I sympathize with you
Richard! :0)

As for the sound, is it coming from the speaker (either from the PC speaker
system - or the little speaker inside the case that beeps when the computer
starts up)?

It also could be due to interference from other electrical/electronic
devices that are placed near the system. (Possible interference through a
wireless connection?)

maybe it is your cpu fan going into
overdrive because when you went
online someprocesses initiated and put
your cpu into overdrive..

do you have one of those fancy
motherboards that let the cooling fans
sleep until they sense the cpu getting
to a certain tempurature? These
motherboards usually come with a
cpu temperature monitoring program.

try opening your task manager and
monitor the processes as you go online.

also, monitor your startups in msconfig.
could be some startups standing by
until you connect....

Aha ! BUT, what about an Eeprom, (electronically eraseable programmable read
only memory), with it's microscopic moving parts ?
(the ones before Fowler-Nordheim tunneling / true solid state eeproms were
made) ...they would make a sound like dominos cascading all over the place
!
