I have installed the trial version on a couple of different machine with no
problem. Now I am trying to instal it on a fresh install of XP pro SP2 and I
get a msg saying that the SQL server is required....blah....blah...blah...
Are there any other services that need to be started to start the server? Or
anything special in SP2 to kick start it?
thanks in advance

I inserted the eval disk, and ran Tools Setup to install TD,CD, etc. They
are installed, no problem. I then run Database Engine Setup and that
procedes as if everything is OK. I then restart the my computer, but the sql
server never starts (at least I don't get the server icon in the system tray
as I have gotten on every other install). I then run Database Setup from the
eval disk and get the message "The MSDE and SQL server v. 2000 or later is
required to be installed and running beforeyou install or modify this
product." This link
http://msdn.microsoft.com/library/default.asp?url=/library/en-us/xpehelp/html/xeerrerrormessages.asp
has the message and a resolution. It says to confirm MSDE or SQL server is
installed by going through Admin Tools, Services..., but I cannot find
MSSQLSERVER anywhere.

Problem solved.
As it turns out, the InfoSys dept. the gave me the computer disabled many of
the services (some of which were probably required to install the sql
server.) So to avoid further frustration an fdisk and reinstall of the OS
did the trick.
