SQL Server Error after Windows Update

Windows Update: Security Update for Microsoft Data Access
Components (823718).

I have an MS SQL Server application running on a Windows
XP Pro machine. The application is accessed over a peer-
to-peer network by workstations that are running either
Windows XP Pro or Windows 2000 Pro.

Last Friday, one of the XP workstations applied the
automatic Windows Update # 823718. Now when that user
tries to access the SQL application, she gets the
following error: "Unable to locate SQL Server:
MIPSERVER\MIP_ENGINE on your network. Please verify that
the SQL Server: MIPSERVER\MIP_ENGINE is running." I
tried to roll back this workstation using System Restore
but was prevented from doing so - probably because this
update says that once it is installed it cannot be
uninstalled.

The server is in fact running and none of the other
workstations are having this problem. The other
workstations have not installed this update, nor has it
been installed on the server.

What should I do? There is currently a Windows Update
notification on the server which includes this update.
Do I need to install this update so that it is in sync
with the workstation that is having the problem? If I do
that, I assume that I will have to update the other
workstations as well. I am a little hesitant since the
other workstations are okay for now and since the update
in question cannot be uninstalled. However, I'd really
like to get this resolved, so that I can get the affected
user back online.

Any ideas?
