Spyware scan won't run

Downloaded Microsoft AntiSpyware on both my Windows 2000
Pro desktop and my XP Pro laptop. Desktop works fine but I
cannot get AntiSpyware to run another scan on the laptop.
Initial scan following download OK but have been unable to
run one since.
 
I have you tried running it in safe mode? Also did you try installing in
another location on your hard disk such as c:\msas?
