Can anyone tell me how to deal with the Twain- tech, vx2 adware that keeps
hijacking my computer continuously no matter how many times I try over and
over again to kill it using Spy Sweeper, Ad-aware and deleting the temp
folders in my profile and the overall windows temp folder. I have tried
everything and it is not helping. If there is any help or clue of what it
uses to reinstall itself please let me know. I've had Spy Sweeper detecting
several traces of adware and it will clean it out only to have it come back
over again. I'm at the point of thinking maybe I'll have to format and
reinstall xp with sp2 on it. I let somebody on my computer and he downloaded
and installed some nasty program that must have been a mega spyware trap.
Please help if you can. Thankyou.

First of all, have you upgraded your AdAware to the latest AdAware SE
version?

Also you need to get the VX2 add-in for AdAware, install it and then
run it. http://www.lavasoft.de/software/addons/vx2cleaner.shtml

Good luck

I've just installed the newest version of Ad-aware SE version 1.04 and put
the new reference file in it and ran it under windows Safe Mode. It found a
few extra things along with Twain- tech and vx2 that Spy Sweeper had just
supposedly killed. I think I may have finally killed that stuff. The only
possibility of it coming back is that maybe the company distributing that
stuff is hacking into my computer to send it back to me which should be
illegal. I really hope I've finally killed it. Thank you all for the great
responses and ideas. :)

How does one know if he has vx2 on his computer? Will the standard
version of Ad-aware indicate this? I have the latest Ad-aware but
nothing so far has indicated vx2 is on my system. Should I download this
Add-On?

Yes. VX2 is getting quite pervasive and it can be tough to get rid
of.

Everyone who uses AdAware should get their VX2 add-on and run it
periodically to check their system. It runs in just a few seconds.

Good luck

Make sure a firewall is active on the system. If nothing else use XP's
built in firewall but a better option is a 3rd party one for either zone
alarm, Sygate or Kerio:

Sygate Personal Firewall

Zone Alarm

Kerio Personal Firewall

Yes you should - you need to run it to install (and after any AdAware
upgrade), reboot for it to become available, then in Adaware, find it at
the first screen in Addons.

A good page on general fighting of this stuff is Richard Harper's
