Just curious: are you new to usenet news groups? I don't recall seeing
you here before the past few weeks.

This website is dedicated to helping users get and stay clean of
spyware. This website is broken down into a couple different pages. You
can navigate this webpage by clicking on the links to the left.

I am working on being allowed to host some of these tools. Until then,
just use the links to take you to the program you want to go to.

I am 16 years old and live in the USA. I got interested in cleaning
spyware after my computer got infected. I credit the reason for my
successes so far to the pushing and nudging of my teachers:

Thanks for your support. I have just answered a similar (more offensive)
criticism in another thread. At the time of writing, the score on this
thread is four-one to me.

You did the young lad who is running the website an injustice by not
saying more.

I don't understand your motivation for a reply like this.

We have a great many posts here, some of which contain nothing more than
a grunt. Clicking on these links can be time-consuming. Further, many of
the URLs themselves are cryptic -- many of them don't describe what
their program does!

That's why I'd appreciate having something more than a one-liner. In
fact, your post was such a one-liner.

(Top posting on purpose):

Thanks very much, Mel.
This is exactly the kind of useful information we can all use.

Surely, you must be joking. (Well, OK. maybe not.)
You're welcome to google on my name. I've been on this board before,
just not lately.

I'm into clear communication. It helps; it really does.

I had no intention to start a war, so please don't get into "I got more
support than you did," stuff. I made a serious request.

I'm trying to present a case for clear communication. Always remember
that there's someone else at the other end of a post -- an actual human
being such as yourself, and it's a courtesy to say something helpful to
that person. Such as at least a minimal description.

A URL-only post is almost a disservice. You see, as you know, there's a
whole lot of freeware and fake freeware out there. Clicking on links
haphazardly can actually run into a lot of time. And, also as you know,
a lot of freeware is crap and some of it is even dangerous. It's
civilized to provide some sort of guidance. You don't have to be as
extensive as I am in my descriptions (hint: see some of my stuff for
guidance -- I'm known as an effective writer).

What if I wrote a post that said only "George Bush?"

It's like that. Exactly like that.

I must read newsgroups offline, so I can't click on that link to "read
all about it." Since this is a discussion group, why not state
something about why you chose to post that particular link?

If the link was to a specific program (or programs) I would normally put a
quote from the site. In this case, as far as I recall, the siteowner was
trying to host a collection of freeware and I thought it would be more
considerate to him (or her) to just give a link to the site to increase the
number of visitors, rather than merely lift copy from the page. Before
posting this, I tried to access the site to take another look but received a
message

I hope my original post has increased the number of visitors and suggest you
pay a visit if you are interested.

By creating a link of pure guesswork you inadvertently caused
excessive traffic to the website. If you had quoted a bit about the
link perhaps some would not have bothered with a further inquiry,
thereby saving bandwidth for others who are interested.
