Does anyone know how to detect spyware or adware on your
computer? I'm getting many annoying popups and I want to
stop them. I'm sure they are from one or both of these
sources.

Two well known choices are 'Spybot Search and Destroy' and AdAware. You can
find them on the Internet.

There are several programs that you can download for free
to help eliminate your problems. There is an Ad Aware 6
program you can download from

Spyware can be detected and removed through downloading
Spybot Search and Destroy. It is free as well. The site
for it is:http://spybot.eon.net.au/
Hope this helps !

It's quite possible the pop-ups are not from spyware.
Advertisers also know how to exploit Windows Messaging
(not Windows Messenger) to send you pop ups. If these pop
up are coming even when you are not surfing, but you are
connected to teh internet, then it could very well be
this intrusion with Windows Messaging. The solution would
be to turn off Windows Messaging, but then you wouldn't
get the messages from programs like your antivirus that
tells you when it has found a virus. The other
possibility is to put in a firewall. This will help.

You can get a free firewall at www.zonelabs.com

With AdAware you'll want to make sure you don't have Kazaa
if you do AdAware will remove many of the anoying add
systems that KaZaA uses when it's up and running and will
get you to re install. a suggestion would be to remove
KaZaA and then run AdAware and then go to a dif file
sharing service. I like the new napster, 99cents a song
ain't that bad. considering you get the full wma... if you
don't like that avenue get KaZaA lite... kazaalite.de I
think...
