i have windows xp and i got a spreadsheet attached to and email i saved it to 3 1/2 disc how do i open this file now

Hi Sweetpea!

Do NOT attempt to open the file with Excel directly from the floppy
disc.

Put the floppy disc in the disc drive
Right Click the Start Button > Select Explore
Look down the "tree" to the A:\ drive
Select the xls file by clicking once
Right click the file > Copy
Now select My Documents folder or another folder of your choice
Right click > Paste
Remember where you copied it to
Take the floppy disc out of the disc drive

Open Excel
File > Open
Navigate to the folder you copied the file to
Select and open.

Repeat!!! Do NOT attempt to open the file with Excel directly from the
floppy disc. This causes more corruption of Excel files than anything
else.

i did all the way to taking out the disc but how do i open excel and the rest i'm really dumb when it comes to computers please help me

Hi Sweetpea!

If you have an Excel icon on your desktop, double click it.

Otherwise:

Start > Programs
You should have an Excel icon after the list of programs and you can
click that.
Or look for Microsoft Office and if you point to it you'll see Excel
there. Point to it and click

Then it's

File > Open
Navigate to the folder you copied the file to
Point to and click the file
Click the Open button

It is possible you don't have Excel or any Office applications on your
Computer.

These are not native to Windows XP. If your computer seller included Office
or Excel with the bundle you may have them.

You can buy the MS Office Suite or Excel as a stand-alone.

Alternative could be the FREE Open Office application download which can read
Excel files.
