Is there someway to do a spreadsheet with xp2000 as it is initially
installed, or do you have to add new software. If you do, is there something
free somewhere? When I had Windows 98 it came with microsoft works.

You have to add new software.

Your computer manufacturer bundled Works with your computer. It is not
part of Windows.

there is opensource software called openoffice. You can download it
from openoffice.org. It is formatted similar to Office 2000 and can
open excel spreadsheets (formatting errors can occur in some cases as
it is not Microsoft Excel). This software is free and works great for
most people. If you are doing very complex calculation in a
spreadsheet you willl need to purchase MS Office.

"XP2000"? There is no Microsoft operating system called "XP2000" Windows XP
is the current version of Windows; Windows 2000 was its predecessor.

No, Windows 98 didn't come with Microsoft Works. Your computer came with
both Windows 98 and .Microsoft Works. It was the choice of your vendor to
offer you that package. No version of Windows has ever come with Microsoft
Works or with any other significant application software.

If you want to create a spreadsheet, you need to acquire spreadsheet
software. The most popular spreadsheet spreadsheet product is Microsoft
Excel, which you can buy either by itself or as part of Microsoft Office.
There are lots of other alternatives, including Corel WordPerfect Office,
StarOffice, and the freeware OpenOffice. You might want to start by
downloading OpenOffice and seeing if that meets your needs.

Regarding OpenOffice: Takes 9 hours by slow dial-up to download.
They offer a CD, I would suggest ordering same.

I like OpenOffice so far. A few bugs but not too bad.
Presentations is pretty good, very similar to PowerPoint.
Spreadsheet good.

What is "xp2000?" I've never heard of any such product.

Well, the computer manufacturer might have bundled Works into the deal,
but Win98 doesn't come with it.
