have you ever heard of a spectrum analyzer ?
or a electromagnetic detection unit ? faraday cage ?
EMI -- - compliance --
 
What I found is the spread spectrum setting keeps varying the frequencies a
little so they don't emit so much EMI, but it makes it hard to get stable
overclocks with unstable frequencies.
