A little while back I downloaded and installed CloneCD and Alcohol
120% at the suggestion of tech tv's call for help (not
simultaneously). Now every time I boot the computer My Computer shows
an AVX SCSI DVD disk as being installed and device manager shows a
SCSI/Raid host controler as being installed.

My computer is a Pavillion 7935 with no ad in cards. I can't use
system restore because every time it gets about 25% of the way through
the process and quits with the message cannot restore from this
restore point.

I've tried deleting the entries in device manager but the next time I
reboot they're back.

Obviously there's something that's telling the computer that these
things are installed. I need to find and delete it.

All suggestions welcome.

Hi Chris,

Alcohol 120% is who is creating the phantom SCSI drives. This is normal. I tried Alcohol 120%, and didn't like it since it would
cause problems with some of my system tray utilities. I use The Original CDROM Emulator by ZTekWare ( http://www.ztekware.com/
). It works great under WinXP and was inexpensive.

I keep 8 reference CDs on my hard disk, and love being free of carrying CDs with me. I do have to admit that running the program
adds 75 seconds to the boot time.

Speaking of boot time, why does everyone complain about it. My machine with all the stuff I have loading takes about 5 minutes
to get to the point where I can use it. When I am in my office, I boot up in the morning, and don't have to boot again until I
get home. I hear people say to eliminate startup items to get the machine to boot up faster. I use my system tray utilities
throughout the day and would hate to have to take the time to load them when I actually need them. I like my utilities to be a
mouse click away.

Yup alcohol was the problem. Here's what their support department said
to do:

Hello,

Please follow these steps:
- Go to control panel - system - hardware - device manager, find under
"SCSI and RAID controllers" the "AXV SCSI controller" and remove it.
All Alcohol drives will disappear.
- Also remove "Plug and Play Bios Extension" from "System Devices"
else the drives will return after reboot.
