I have a problem that my pc running win2000 pro occasionaly reboots all by
itself ...It has happened while using Nero and also while on the internet. I
have plently of hard disk space available...i have reformated my pc and it
still happens...what should I be looking for to try and solve this problem?
Could it be a hardware problem? Any ideas?

Spontaneous reboots are usually device driver errors. You have your machine
set up to reboot instead of doing the blue-screen-memory-dump, not that it
will help that much anyway, but it might give you a clue.

I've had plenty experience with spontaneous reboots. All 100% of the
reboots occurred due to memory chip problems from my own experience. After
exchanging for a new one, they went away. Check your memory sticks.

It may help to navigate to System Properties, Advanced Tab, Startup and
Recovery button, middle section, uncheck the Automatic Reboot. Hopefully
this will result in an error message that will isolate your problem.
You could also open the management console and set some event logs.

And what program do you use to open the .dmp file that results from
the memory dump?

I advise you to follow that advice, I spent week and a half trying
everything in vain, until I removed one of the memory modules out of
pure desperation. The chip was the problem.

The memory dump is useless to me, but the stop error on the blue screen has
some information that can sometimes be useful. If it just reboots, you never
see it.
