Spontaneous renaming of drive volumes in Explorer!

Ken

I upgraded from Win2000 SP4 to WinXP Pro SP2 last night. All went
fairly well except I had some problems installing the updates, but that
finally finished.

The major problem is that on my last reboot, the drive volumes suddenly
took on new names and a few were listed twice. The worst problem is
that Disk0 has three partitions, C,D, and E. D and E were replaced by
two different drives and then my J and K drives were listed twice.

I think I will have to do another attempt at reinstalling but I would
like to be prepared this time for situations like this. Does anyone
know how to circumvent this problem? What is strange is that I cannot
rename the volumes.

Thanks
Ken K

May be you can try...

Start->Run->diskmgmt.msc

And Highlight the drive + right-click and change drive letter from drop down
menu

Jean

Try this, temporarily unplug all but the main HDD and then do a repair
install
