does anyone know how to remove the split bar located just
above the scroll bar (on the right handside of the window)?

Not much help, but if you set Freeze Panes on, the split bar goes away.

Don't know of any other method.

Curious....why does it make a difference if visible or not?

hmm .. that's why I guessed it might be more
a case of removing an existing split <g>

Yes that is what I was wondering, if they were trying to
prevent splits. But now that we know it was an existing split
and not the split bar, you didn't explain that the split bar is the
tiny bar above the vertical scrollbar that can be dragged to
make a split. (similar for the horizontal scroll bar as well).
In other words using split or freeze from the Window menu
is not the only way to create a split.

We still don't, actually, unless the OP reverts.
Albeit it was described quite clearly in the post.

But you're right, Dave, about the explanation part.
It should have been given.

Thanks for the clarification.
