Deliberately type a misspelled word on page 6 and select that word. Press
Ctrl-F1.
A dialog box showing formatting sources will pop up (or in later versions, a
Task Pane).
If one of these is "no proofing" or "do not check spelling or grammar" that
is the source of your problem. If so, delete the word you just typed in.
Select pages 3-end of document and under Tools pick Language and change the
proofing option so that the checkbox for "do not check" is not checked.
